Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson

Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson today tabled the annual reports of seven Queensland government-owned energy entities that focus on delivering a substantial program of works to meet Queensland's growing electricity needs.

“A record of more than $1 billion was spent by Energex to upgrade and maintain South East Queensland’s electricity distribution network,” Mr Wilson said.

“Ergon Energy injected more than $800 million into its capital works program across regional Queensland.

“Powerlink Queensland has $1.6 billion in projects either underway or on the drawing board.

“In fact, Powerlink has the largest capital works program of any transmission company in the National Electricity Market,” he said.

Other highlights of annual reports include:

  • This year CS Energy generated more than half the gas fired power produced in the state – a real win for the environment
  • Energex and Ergon Energy have recorded improved electricity network reliability
  • Tarong Energy invested $4.2 million into a reverse osmosis plant capable of producing up to 500 ML of high quality demineralised and potable water a year

Queensland's electricity demand is growing at a rate that far outpaces all other states in the National Electricity Market,” Mr Wilson said.

The demand is being driven by continued strong economic growth, resource and industrial developments and a rapidly growing population,” he said.
