2007 WATER-WISE GARDEN AWARDS PRESENTATION

Department of Housing tenants from Wujal Wujal who use water-efficient techniques to keep their gardens thriving will be recognised tomorrow as part of the department’s 2007 Water-Wise Garden Awards.

Housing Minister Robert Schwarten said the winners were selected from the 23 entries received from tenants in the area. More than 1,141 entries were received for the awards state-wide.

“This is the first year Wujal Wujal has participated in the Garden Awards, and I am thrilled with the enthusiasm shown by the community,” Mr Schwarten said.

“The Garden Awards recognise tenants who show pride in their gardens while reflecting and promoting water-wise principles such as using compost and mulch, and selecting plants that require little water and fertiliser.

“While the Far North is not suffering from drought, the theme of this year’s awards recognised that water is a precious resource for all Queenslanders.”
