Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Premier in Western Queensland
The Honourable Kerry Shine
Convicted sex offender Walter Frank Bridson will remain in prison after his scheduled release date in November after a successful application to the Supreme Court by Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Kerry Shine.
Mr Shine applied for Mr Bridson to be kept in prison on a continuing detention order after advice from psychiatrists suggested there was a high risk he would commit more sex offences.
“As part of their evidence the psychiatrists said Mr Bridson’s refusal to take part in rehabilitation programs meant he had not addressed the violent and sexual nature of his offending.
“The court ruled that he should remain in custody indefinitely for control, care and treatment after his scheduled release date of 27 November,” Mr Shine said.
“The State Government will continue to apply for the continuing detention of offenders who refuse to take part in rehabilitation programs.
“If the court decides to release these offenders we will apply for a supervision order with strict conditions including a curfew and electronic monitoring to ensure they are properly monitored in the community,” Mr Shine said.
