The Honourable John Mickel

Bus passengers in Redlands will next week start to benefit from new services worth $1.2 million.

Transport Minister John Mickel and Member for Capalaba Michael Choi said the state government funding had been spent to introduce three completely new bus routes, from next Monday (29 October).

The 278 is a new local shopper service for Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island residents that will link in with island ferry services and the 272 to Redlands Hospital.

The 279 is a new peak commuter service for Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island residents that will travel via Mt Cotton Road and the South East Busway, bypassing traffic on Old Cleveland Road.

The 285 is a new local service for commuters and shoppers travelling between Redland Bay and Victoria Point. It connects with city services during peak times and also connects with one morning and one afternoon peak ferry service at Redland Bay Marina.

"Buses are hugely popular in Redlands, and since July 2004 patronage in the area has increased by 60%”, Mr Choi said.

"The people of the Redlands have embraced our public transport services and that's why we're investing $1.2 million in new services in the area."

The new routes will also improve or expand several existing services in Redlands:

• 251 Ormiston to Brisbane City – morning peak trip extended from Ormiston;
• 253 Capalaba to Thorneside – additional afternoon trip from Thorneside rail station to Capalaba bus station on weekdays;
• 271 Victoria Point to Brisbane City – timetable adjustments to improve service reliability for commuters; now services Point Halloran on all trips;
• 277 Victoria Point to Victoria Point Jetty – timetable adjustments to improve connections with other bus services, in particular peak services at Victoria Point bus station;
• 280 Point Talburpin to Griffith University – extra Sunday service, timetable adjustments to improve reliability; and
• 281 Point Talburpin to Brisbane City – timetable adjustments to improve reliability for City workers and connections with ferry services.
