Gold Coast company rides away with top export honours

Gold Coast-based company Magic Millions Sales Pty Ltd tonight galloped away with top export honours in the Premier of Queensland Export Awards.

Premier Anna Bligh congratulated Magic Millions Sales, which won the Sports, Events and Tourism Award, at the Export Awards presentation ceremony held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre tonight.

Ms Bligh said the world famous thoroughbred bloodstock sales and promotion company is best known for its Gold Coast Carnival, Yearling Sale and Race Day, which attracts thousands of visitors from overseas and across Australia every January.

“And, of course, the growing attendance figures and ensuing publicity is great for the Gold Coast economy.“

Ms Bligh said Magic Millions has come a long way since 1986 when it pioneered the race-sale concept.

“Its annual turnover has rocketed from some $80 million to more than $257 million in the past few years,” she said.

Minister for Trade John Mickel said Magic Millions makes a major contribution to the creation of jobs and the overall health of the Queensland economy, with horse buyers spending over $120 million in January this year alone.

“Exports create jobs so it's crucial that we do everything we can to boost our exports. A strong regional export base makes for a strong Queensland,’’ he said.

Mr Mickel said the Queensland Government is committed to helping exporters succeed through its programs and services, and aims to inspire innovation, encourage entrepreneurship, and build sustainable communities.

The Export Awards program, now in its 18^th year, is a very public way of recognising and celebrating the success of outstanding exporters, who make a valuable contribution to the growth and development of the Queensland economy.

Winners of the 2007 Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards will automatically progress as national finalists into the Australian Export Awards 2007, to be held on 22 November in Brisbane.
