Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence
Corrective Services Minister Judy Spence has today officially opened the new Logan City Probation and Parole Office.
Ms Spence joined Member for Woodridge Desley Scott, Member for Waterford Evan Moorehead and Member for Springwood Barbara Stone, in welcoming in a new era for Probation and Parole in the Logan area.
“This $680,000 office will ensure offenders around Logan City will be better monitored, with the new facilities boasting improved supervision and surveillance,” Ms Spence said.
“The Logan City office currently supervises approximately 740 offenders on a variety of orders, the largest number of offenders managed by any probation and parole office on Brisbane’s southside.
“These new facilities will allow the staff working in the office to continue to safely monitor offenders on community-based orders, providing increased monitoring capabilities and improved service delivery for rehabilitation and reintegration programs.
“One of our state’s Corrective Services Intelligence Officers also works in this office, ensuring our most serious offenders are watched very closely, and any breaches of their orders can be detected immediately.”
Ms Spence said the Logan City office is one of 34 Probation and Parole offices now operating in Queensland.
“In recent months, new offices have also been opened in Beenleigh, Caboolture, Doomadgee, Mornington Island, Emerald and Thursday Island and, just last month, at Pine Rivers,” Ms Spence said.
“This is the result of our government’s commitment to the biggest overhaul of Queensland’s community corrections system in 15 years.
“It’s about providing tougher surveillance and supervision, with targeted interventions and programs.
“In this years Budget, $61 Million was allocated for Probation and Parole Services, ensuring this sector of Queensland Corrective Services will continue to be resourced in such a way that we can continue to set a high standard of offender management and rehabilitation in Australia and around the world.”
