Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts today opened the Northern Area Intensive Care Paramedic Pod at Narangba Ambulance Station.
Mr Roberts said the new Pod would prove to be a great addition to emergency pre-hospital health care in the region.
“Intensive Care Paramedics are a vital component of the modern ambulance service,” Mr Roberts said.
“In addition to the high level of skills held by paramedics, ICPs can administer a greater range of medicines and perform more complex medical procedures.
“This new Pod will ensure the Northern Area of Brisbane has a full quota of our highest qualified paramedics ready to respond to emergencies.”
In State Parliament last week Mr Roberts congratulated the latest group of 14 to pass the rigorous testing required when becoming an ICP.
He said they are a part of more than 200 paramedics to graduate into ICPs in the last 10 years.
Today Mr Roberts also officially handed over three Emergency Response Vehicles to compliment the new Pod.
“The Emergency Response Vehicles are specially equipped to support the ICPs in the field,” Mr Roberts said.
“Together they are worth over $167,000, and represent the significant investment the Government is making in ambulance service delivery in Queensland.”
The new Pod will also cater for aspiring Intensive Care Paramedics who will be based at the station and mentored by current ICPs.
