Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Women
The Honourable Margaret Keech

Minister for Women Margaret Keech today recognised the hard working volunteers helping women undergoing cancer treatment to ‘Look Good...Feel Better’.

Look Good...Feel Better is a program dedicated to teaching make-up and beauty techniques to women undergoing treatment for cancer.

More than 1,200 volunteer beauty professionals help run the free workshops across Australia.

The Minister paid a visit to today’s workshop at the Cancer Council Queensland premises at Southport and was impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of the volunteers.

“This program helps cancer patients deal with the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, by helping to restore their appearance and self image,” Mrs Keech said.

“The volunteers donate their time to share their knowledge and expertise which since 1990 has helped over 50,000 women living with cancer.

“What a lovely way to be pampered while learning some tricks of the trade, not to mention the fabulous cosmetics and skincare kit the women got to take home.

“These women learn techniques to deal with changes to their skin, loss of hair from brows, lashes and head as well as other appearance related concerns.

“The workshop also covers demonstrations on the use of wigs, hats, turbans and scarf tying with the emphasis being on hands-on learning.”

Mrs Keech said the Look Good…Feel Better program couldn’t operate without the help of the volunteers and the generous support of the cosmetic, toiletry and haircare industry.

“The industry, represented by ACCORD, (Advocate for the Consumer, Cosmetic, Hygiene and Specialty Product Industry), provides the program with products, financial donations and volunteers.

“These fabulous workshops are open to any woman undergoing or about to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment for cancer and are available across Australia.”

Each participant receives a take home instruction booklet and a complimentary kit of skincare and cosmetics which have been donated from the Australian cosmetic industry

These workshops are held in major hospitals and cancer care centres across Australia. For more information or to find a workshop visit www.lgfb.org.au or call 1800 650 960.
