Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
Five teams from the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service will contest the National Firefighters’ Championships in Victoria this weekend, Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said today.
Mr Roberts said he wished the QFRS teams from Wondai, Monto, Atherton, Mt Tamborine and Withcott success at the Championships being held at Lakes Entrance from 19 to 21 October.
“I wish our QFRS teams all the best at the National Championships,” Mr Roberts said.
“The biennial National Championships, like the Queensland Firefighters Championship held annually, promote teamwork and skills, and further enhance readiness to fight fires.”
QFRS teams are selected on merit from the annual Queensland Firefighters Championship.
The Atherton team from the Far North Region was the championship team at the 2007 Queensland Firefighter Championship, while Mt Tamborine of the South East Region was the runner-up team.
Wondai and Monto teams from the QFRS North Coast Region were the championship and runner-ups from the Queensland championships last year.
QFRS received an invitation for a fifth team to represent Queensland at the National event. The team selected, based on their merit as the top performing Rural Fire Brigade team at the Regional and the Queensland Championship, was the team from the Withcott Rural Fire Brigade.
