Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
ROCKHAMPTON manufacturers and businesses will have the opportunity to meet trade experts and learn more about expanding their international export base, Minister for Trade John Mickel said today.
“Queensland Government trade specialists will share their knowledge of the market in fast-growing Indonesia with companies attending the Opportunities in Indonesia Information Session,” he said.
Mr Mickel said Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner in Jakarta, Tony Mitchener, would share his valuable insights on the region.
“In 2006-07 Queensland exported $825.9 million worth of merchandise goods to Indonesia,” he said.
Mr Mickel said the seminar is part of the annual Export Week, which recognises the important contribution of the exporting sector in Queensland to the State’s economic prosperity.
Commissioner Mitchener will outline major opportunities and future Queensland Government activities in Indonesia including a trade mission to Jakarta in late October 2007 to coincide with the Mining Indonesia 2007 trade show, the premiere mining trade show for the Indonesian market.
Attendees will hear about major mining projects taking place in Indonesia including billion dollar nickel projects in Sulawesi and significant coal projects in Kalimantan.
In the first quarter of 2007-08, the Queensland Government’s Trade Queensland office in Indonesia has brought export success in the market, including nearly $3 million worth of exports from three Queensland companies supplying mining equipment and services.
