The Honourable John Mickel
QR has completed the first phase of the third rail loop servicing the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal.
Transport Minister John Mickel told State Parliament this morning the loop would be completed in November, on schedule for the expansion plans of the terminal.
"The third loop is a key piece of infrastructure so Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal can increase capacity within the Goonyella System coal chain and potentially increase the terminal's throughput from 60 million tonnes per annum to 85 million per annum," he said.
"QR's work on the third rail loop to a new third rail unloader and approach tracks cost an estimated $110 million.
"At the same time, the leaseholder Babcock and Brown Infrastructure is investing significantly in expansion of the terminal.
"Other key projects on the coal transport network feeding into Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal include a $31.8 million expansion of the Coppabella Yard, upgrading Connors Range signalling, and boosting the power at Mindi substation.
"QR and the Queensland Government are serious about meeting the huge demand for our coal."
The QR project at the terminal includes construction of the third loop, extending the two existing loops, and extensive civil works, telecommunications, electrification and signalling.
