The Honourable Craig Wallace
Students of Mount Crosby State Primary School who found that a gully behind the school was officially nameless have come up with a proposal to call it ‘Burrows Gully’.
Residents of the area now have the opportunity to have their say on the proposal.
Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace said his department had received an official proposal from the school to name the gully after students studying local history identified that the geographical feature had never been formally named.
“The proposed name, Burrows Gully, originates from a local pioneer, Mr John Burrows, who in 1870, purchased an 80-acre, or 32-hectare, property where the gully flows.” Mr Wallace said.
“The land was held by the Burrows family until it was transferred in December 1924.”
A plan illustrating the proposal is available for public inspection at the Department of Natural Resources and Water, Level 4, Hayden Centre, cnr East and South Streets, Ipswich, Karana Downs Public Notice Board, Karana Downs Shopping Centre and at the Mount Crosby Post Office.
Individual written submissions can be lodged with the Regional Services Director, South East Region, Ipswich Office, Department of Natural Resources and Water, PO Box 864, Ipswich Qld 4305 until 14 December 2007.
