Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology
The Honourable Robert Schwarten
Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten has today invited contractors and suppliers in Gladstone to build their business with QBuild by attending a special Procurement 2007 Industry Forum in the city next week
The Forum will be held at Rydges Hotel (formerly the Country Plaza International) at 6.00 pm on Wednesday 17 October.
“QBuild hopes to expand its register of contractors and suppliers at a series of meetings throughout Queensland which explain how to become involved in government work,” Mr Schwarten said.
“QBuild is a commercialised business unit and an important state-wide partner in Queensland’s building and construction industry spending more than $500 million annually.”
The Minister said the forum would provide important information about working with QBuild and will help attract new registered contractors to provide the following services:
• Carpentry, plumbing, draining and roofing services
• Glazing services
• Air conditioning services
• Permanent and temporary fencing, tree care services, grounds maintenance and landscaping
• Locksmith services
• Concrete services and steel fabrication services
• Builder services (project management) and relocatable building services
• Kitchen installations and tiling services
• Earth moving (site preparation)
• Roller door installations
• Site security services
“QBuild is always looking for first class contractors,” Mr Schwarten said.
“There are special requirements working for government, but those contractors who take the time to understand our ‘Working with QBuild’ guidelines can undertake good long-term business for years.”
The Minister emphasised this was an important issue for QBuild, particularly in regional Queensland.
"We deal with our registered contractors and suppliers first, so registration is an essential step to win business from us,” he said.
The Minister said initiatives discussed at the forums included reducing red tape, simplifying business, the launch of new eBusiness tools, new 'plain English' contracts, and, previews of upcoming work opportunities across the State.
