State funding to address Queensland shoreline erosion issues

Queensland beaches and shoreline areas will benefit from funding through the Queensland Government’s Shoreline Erosion Management Planning Scheme.

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt today announced that Queensland councils would share in more than $400,000 towards developing shoreline erosion plans under round one of the program.

“With a budget of $1 million over three years, the Shoreline Erosion Management Planning Scheme provides funding to address shoreline erosion threats to coastal property and infrastructure and manages the effects of cyclones and storms,” Mr Pitt said.

“In round one we have provided more than $400,000 towards eight environmental projects across the state.”

Mr Pitt said the projects funded were:

  • Sand Sourcing Strategy for Cairns Beaches - $80,000
  • Shoreline Erosion Management Plan for Tully Heads-Hull Heads - $55,000
  • Gold Coast Shoreline Erosion Management Plan - $49,000
  • Hervey Bay Shoreline Erosion Management Plan for Key Sites - $24,000
  • Hinchinbrook Shoreline Erosion Management Plan - $67,500
  • Agnes Water Shoreline Erosion Management Plan - $50,000
  • Redcliffe Shoreline Erosion Management Plan - $37,500
  • Townsville Shoreline Erosion Management Plan - $40,000

“These are innovative projects that have real potential to benefit our unique natural environment in Queensland,” Mr Pitt said.

“The Queensland Government is pleased to be able to assist local councils to get these important projects up and running.”
