The Honourable Warren Pitt
Local government reform transition planning has reached a new milestone with the finalisation of the appointments of the remaining interim chief executive officers.
Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said all Local Transition Committees (LTCs) had now commenced and, with all 31 interim CEOs now appointed, transition planning was well underway across the state.
“This is a significant milestone for local government reform and marks an important point in the preparations being made for the commencement of the new councils,” Mr Pitt said.
“All LTCs have now commenced work on their transition planning.
“The commitment to getting on with the job is a mark of the professionalism of the local government councillors and staff involved,” Mr Pitt said.
Mr Pitt said he hoped to meet with Local Transition Committees during the next few months.
“The Queensland Government is committed to supporting LTCs during the transition period and I am looking forward to meeting the councillors, CEOs and union representatives involved.
“During the next five months, interim CEOs and the LTCs will prepare changeover plans for the incoming councils.
“These plans will cover various items such as providing advice to the new councils on the merging of financial systems, budgets, planning schemes, staffing structures and the co-ordinated delivery of services, to name but a few.
“These transition action plans will allow the new councils to make prompt decisions to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible for residents and ratepayers,” he said.
Mr Pitt said funding of $8.75 million had been allocated to help Local Transition Committees during the five-month transition planning phase.
