Established or aspiring business operators can get some tips on growing their firm by attending a range of informative workshops in October.

Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle said the Maryborough and Hervey State Development Centres would run sessions on managing finances, improving marketing and getting a small business off the ground.

“Coming up is a Managing your Profits and Cash workshop in Maryborough and a Marketing Edge session in Gympie. There’ll also be a Small Business Pilot workshop series for business people in Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Kingaroy,” Ms Boyle said.

“Small business is vital to the Queensland economy and the State Government is supporting workshops like these to give owners the best chance of success.”

Maryborough and Hervey Bay State Development Centre Director Bob Hockey said after attending Managing your Profits and Cash, business people would be more confident in working with accountants and financial planners.

“It gives an overview of three levels of financial reporting which are essential to the successful business management,” Mr Hockey said.

“Participants will have the chance to complete exercises which clarify the terms and processes involved.”

Mr Hockey said Marketing Edge would give people a better idea of how to attract customers’ attention through marketing.

“You’ll clarify who your customer is, what really drives your turnover, your company’s competitive advantage as well as techniques to effectively get your message or product out there,” he said.

Those new to the business world can get a run down on a range of essential matters to consider in the Starting a Business Pilot seminar.

“This introduction covers business planning, legal structures, marketing, record keeping and time management,” Mr Hockey said.

“Anyone thinking of going into business must be at least aware of the concepts presented. The workshop is highly recommended as a lead in to further management training.”

The Managing your Profits and Cash workshop will be held from 6.00pm-9.00pm on Wednesday 10 October at the Maryborough RSL, 165 Lennox Street, Maryborough at a cost of $33.00.

The Marketing Edge workshop will be held from 6.00pm-9.00pm on Wednesday 10 October at the Gympie Pines Golf Club, 2 Shields Street, Gympie at a cost of $33.00.
