Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Roma Street Parklands will be Uppin’ the Amphi on Saturday, 13 October, when the Queensland Multicultural Festival opening night concert features 5 bands, a DJ and a big night out.
Multicultural Affairs Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said the concert was a new component of the Festival and would present young local, national and international musical talent including rock, world music and hip hop.
Art-rock combo The Red Paintings will headline the concert supported by Kooii, Kai Thomas from Sierra Leone, Phoenix Fire Tribe, the Resonant Drummers of Rwanda and DJ Cat Kid.
The visually extravagant art-rock combo The Red Paintings are known for their creative and integrative art installations and interactive stage shows.
Soon after their Festival appearance they head off on an international tour where they will perform alongside the likes of Johnny Rotten, Tom Waits and Patti Smith.
DJ Cat Kid will start the show at 6pm followed by support act Kai Thomas, a rapper from Sierra Leone.
The Resonant Drummers of Rwanda will also light up the stage with their wild and infectious energy. They feature drumming and frenzied dancing from newly-arrived members of the Rwandan Association of Queensland and the Kaze Burundian community.
Phoenix Fire Tribe led by Bec McConnel will present spectacular pyrotechnics – juggling with fire to knife edge rhythms – and Kooii led by Peter Hunt will blend reggae and world music rhythms with Saxophone and exciting percussion.
Tickets are available now at www.oztix.com.au or 1300 762 545 and from Rockinghorse, Skinnys, Butterbeats, MoshPit, Cosmic Music, Music Mania & Sunflower.
