FREE RESOURCES FOR WORKPLACES TO GET INVOLVED IN WORK SAFE WEEK 21-27 OCTOBER

Free resources are now available online to help Queensland workplaces to get involved in Work Safe Week from 21 to 27 October.
The Work Safe Week promotional resources can be downloaded from www.worksafeweek.qld.gov.au and include posters, a logo, a media release template, some great ideas for safety activities, a list of events in their region and a booklet on how to prevent slips, trips and falls.
Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations John Mickel said many workplaces throughout the state were already gearing up for Work Safe Week, with more than 180 events already confirmed.
He thanked those businesses, organisations and individuals who had already registered the details of their events with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
“I encourage other workplaces to organise an activity and register it on the Work Safe Week website – whether the event is to be conducted internally or open to the public,” Mr Mickel said.
“By promoting your activity you’ll not only be showing your support for Work Safe Week, but also the local community how strong your commitment is to ensuring safety in your workplace.”
Mr Mickel said Work Safe Week will kick off with a family fun day in New Farm Park in Brisbane on Sunday 21 October.
“There’ll also be industry hosted safety fun days open to the public in Maryborough and Bundaberg and “Safety is Everybody’s Business” seminars for businesses in Brisbane and major regional centres.
“The business seminars are collaboration between Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and Commerce Queensland and will feature inspirational guest speakers who have survived major workplace accidents.”
Just some of the other activities planned for Work Safe Week and listed by region on the Work Safe Week website are:
• safety displays and presentations
• toolbox talks
• protective equipment demonstrations
• school class room activities
• breakfasts, morning teas and sausage sizzles
• spot the risk competitions
• training sessions
• hazard hunts
• safety quizzes with prizes
• lunch room and foyer displays
• staff safety awards
• suggestion boxes
• risk assessment workshops.
