Gold Coast winemaker Jon Heslop, co-owner of Witches Falls Winery, has picked up another Gold Medal for his 2005 Witches Falls Granite Belt Prophecy Cabernet Sauvignon at the prestigious 2007 Rutherglen Wine Show in Victoria.

Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle congratulated Jon and the team at Witches Falls Winery for the Gold Medal win.

“Queensland winemakers are making wines as good as any wine region of Australia”.

“Rutherglen is the second largest event on Australia’s highly competitive wine show circuit.

“To be awarded a Gold Medal at Rutherglen is an outstanding result for the State and a credit to the fine wine-making practices used by Jon Heslop and the team.

“The Gold Coast can take pride in the achievements of this winery which is located on Tamborine Mountain.

“Grapes, predominantly from Queensland, are processed, fermented and finished on site and tours are available for visitors.

“The 2005 Witches Falls Granite Belt Prophecy Cabernet Sauvignon has also won a Gold Medal at the 2007 Cowra Wine show and the 2007 Cairns Wine show.

“The fruit used to produce it is 100 per cent Queensland grown from the Granite Belt wine region.

“Queenslanders should be very proud of the excellent results achieved by local winemakers on the national wine stage” Ms Boyle said.
