Queensland musicians are invited to apply to take part in the State Government’s 2008 delegation to the prestigious MUSEXPO showcase in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Arts Minister Rod Welford said successful applicants would travel to the United States for the event from 27-30 April next year.
“MUSEXPO is a platform for bands to perform before an audience of influential music executives from across the world,” Mr Welford said.
“Local acts such as Pete Murray, the Resin Dogs and Intercooler have established important international connections at MUSEXPO.
“Our Government has helped more than 10 acts take part in MUSEXPO since 2005, with funding support from Arts Queensland and Trade and International Operations offices in Los Angeles and Brisbane.
“We’ve received a terrific response out of MUSEXPO every time.
“The event helps to secure international radio play, concert appearances, recording contracts, licensing deals and movie placements for songs by Queensland artists.”
Mr Welford said Queensland had been identified by world music executives as one of the global hotspots for new music.
“The annual Big Sound music summit which opens in Brisbane tomorrow (3 October) has attracted more than 300 delegates from across Australia, Japan, China, Singapore, India, the United Kingdom, Canada and United States.
“And our reputation just keeps growing, with Queenslanders including The Grates, Katie Noonan, Kate Miller-Heidke, Operator Please and Powderfinger all securing ARIA Award nominations this year.”
Musicians interested in applying to take part in the 2008 MUSEXPO should contact Q Music, Queensland’s music industry development body funded by Arts Queensland, at info@qmusic.com.au or visit www.qmusic.com.au
Applicants are required to submit an application form and other supporting materials. Applications close Friday 26 October.
