Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

More than 30 traffic webcams are just a click away for Queensland drivers following today's launch of the new Main Roads website.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt flicked the switch to make the site "live" and predicted motorists would also switch on to the information available online.

"Drivers wanting to check traffic conditions are going to have a useful tool at their fingertips," Mr Pitt said.

"The Main Roads website provides up-to-the-minute vision of some of south-east Queensland's busiest and most important roads.

"The network of cameras stretches from Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast.

"More webcams currently are being installed around the state and will progressively come online to provide motorists with immediate access to local traffic conditions.

"This is something drivers have requested and I'm pleased we are able to provide it."

The webcam network is part of a comprehensive revamp, which is designed to make www.mainroads.qld.gov.au more user-friendly.

A new online form will allow users to provide comment direct to Main Roads.

"The website upgrade is the result of a variety of feedback from the public, our industry partners and the media," Mr Pitt said.

"Main Roads is providing what people have asked for – an easy-to-operate site that provides ready access to useful, up-to-date information."
