Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Thuringowa City Council will receive more than $320,000 towards the cost of post-disaster repair work after storms and flooding in January and February this year.
Main Roads and Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the cost of repairing damage across the shire was too great a burden for council to carry alone.
Member for Thuringowa Craig Wallace welcomed the funding announcement.
“Road systems are vital assets in regional and remote communities and it was essential that these works took place as quickly as possible after the flood damage that occurred earlier this year,” Mr Wallace said.
“The cost of these restoration works was beyond council’s capacity, which is why the State and Commonwealth governments have stepped in to help with $320,171 in relief assistance.
“Thuringowa City Council has also contributed $106,724 towards the repair works.”
The funding was provided under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) program, a joint State and Commonwealth initiative.
The NDRRA program enables local councils to restore non-insured essential public assets that have been damaged as a result of a natural disaster.
