Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel

Warehousing employers in the Logan area will benefit from 100 newly skilled workers thanks to a Skilling Queenslanders for Work project.

Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations and Member for Logan
John Mickel said his department had granted Blueprint Employment and Training $159,970 to run the 2007 Skills Warehouse project for another year.

“The project will give unemployed and underemployed participants job preparation support and nationally recognised training in warehousing,”
Mr Mickel said.

“Participants will receive case management to ensure they get the most appropriate training and support that will result in sustainable work outcomes.

“In times of very low unemployment and rising skill shortages, it’s vital we give Queensland’s long-term unemployed people the skills that employers are in need of.

“This is the third year we have funded Blueprint giving local jobseekers skills in the transport and warehousing areas.”

Blueprint Training Manager David Pearson said training and support opportunities for participants include traffic controller training and licensing, construction induction, blue card training, accredited training in transport and distribution and job search training and support.

“The accredited training will involve both formal recognition of existing skills and flexible delivery of selected units from both Certificate I and Certificate II in Transport and Distribution (warehousing and storage),” Mr Pearson said.

“The training will be delivered in a simulated environment and for underemployed participants we will aim for flexible delivery that lets them learn and earn at the same time.”

The Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative together with its predecessor the Breaking the Unemployment Cycle initiative have helped create more than 124,000 jobs for Queenslanders since 1998.

Skilling Queenslanders for Work is part of the State Government’s $1 billion Queensland Skills Plan which aims to provide individuals and industry with the skills and workforce for the 21st Century.
