Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Tourism Queensland's flagship websites have been internationally recognised for excellence in the Web Marketing Association’s annual WebAwards competition.
Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said the “Where Else But Queensland” and “Queensland Holidays” websites were selected for awards from more than 2400 nominated sites from 40 countries.
"Our Queensland websites were recognised alongside sites such as Disney, Vegas, Hong Kong Tourism and Canada, which is tremendous," Ms Boyle said.
"Tourism Queensland received an Outstanding Website award for the “Where Else But Queensland” campaign which ran from February to April, and a Travel Standard of Excellence award for the “Queensland Holidays” website,” she said.
“This is the second year running the “Queensland Holidays” site has been recognised in this competition, last year being named one of 15 outstanding travel industry websites in the world.
"Research told us that people often wanted holiday experiences – not just destinations, so the “Queensland Holidays” site was designed to promote, for example, holidays for romance, relaxation and fun. The site uses video, audio and stunning images to showcase our unique tourism destinations.
"The “Where Else But Queensland” site was designed to show off the new brand creative developed by Clemengers and launched in December. The interactive website engages visitors and drives subscriptions to the consumer e-newsletter,” Ms Boyle said.
“The internet is becoming an increasingly important tool for the travel and tourism industry. Already 90 per cent of Australians are online and it is forecast that 24 per cent of travellers worldwide will be booking travel online by 2008.”
The Web Marketing Association was founded in 1997 to set a high standard for internet marketing, development and promotions.
The WebAwards recognise people and organisations responsible for developing some of the most effective websites on the internet today.Entries were judged on design, copywriting, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, and use of technology.
Ms Boyle congratulated the team at Tourism Queensland for the win.
"Their aim is to produce Australia's best holiday and campaign sites and, given these latest international awards, they have certainly achieved success beyond expectations."
Ms Boyle encouraged people wanting to know more about travel in Queensland to visit www.queenslandholidays.com.au.
