Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle

Three new Queensland tourism campaigns were the focus of a major tourism trade mission in Europe this week, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said today.

Ms Boyle said the mission, run by Tourism Queensland, outlined new campaigns for Far North Queensland, Southern Queensland and the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef in five European cities.

“We’ve had an excellent response so far to these three groundbreaking campaigns since their release in recent months, and delivering them directly to markets in Europe is taking their promotion one step further,” Ms Boyle said.

“Tourism Tropical North Queensland released its ‘Change Your Latitude’ campaign in March, while the ‘Great Sunshine Way’ and ‘Islands of the Great Barrier Reef’ campaigns were launched in May.

“This week-long mission has been an opportunity for Tourism Queensland and its partners to meet with some of Europe’s most influential media and trade and present them with the main facets of each campaign.

“Already these campaigns are gaining momentum, proof that we are providing our international markets with what they need to continue to sell and promote Queensland.”

Ms Boyle said the tour was also helping to keep Queensland’s image fresh.

“Each campaign and product presented puts a new story forward for Queensland and is part of our strategy to keep Queensland fresh in the marketplace.

“It’s crucial we continue to deliver new options for Queensland to encourage people to visit.

“Last year, Queensland welcomed more than 170,000 visitors from the European markets covered in the tour.

“Missions such as this help build on this and further promote Queensland as a premier destination for European holidaymakers.

“This year’s events were so well received that in Switzerland more people turned up than were registered.”

The mission visited Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Paris and Munich during September.

Queensland tourism businesses who also took part in the mission include Hamilton Island’s Qualia Resort, Passion of Paradise Cruises, Oceanspirit Cruises, Kingfisher Bay Resort, Noosa Blue Resort and Quiksilver Cruises and Hayman Island.
