The Honourable Warren Pitt
Showgrounds around the State will receive a welcome injection of funds thanks to the latest round of the Queensland Government’s annual show society grants.
Local Government Minister Warren Pitt today announced that more than 130 show societies around the State would share in $2 million.
“Exhibitions and country shows are some of the most anticipated and important days of the year in many communities around Queensland,” Mr Pitt said.
“They give people an opportunity to come together and celebrate what is unique about their local area and community.
“Showgrounds right around Queensland are also key recreation areas, with many sporting clubs using them on a regular basis.
“This funding will help show societies maintain and improve these facilities so that they can be enjoyed by everyone well into the future.
“The show society grants can be used to conduct shows or to construct and maintain show-related assets,” Mr Pitt said.
“The Queensland Government is a strong supporter not only of big shows like the Ekka, but of all the annual shows around the State. We want to keep the tradition of the local show going.
“With so many areas of our State experiencing rapid population growth, it’s also important to keep our public showground facilities in good shape and ready to cope with increased attendances.”
