Appointments made to Cairns port board

Four members of the board of the Cairns Port Authority have been reappointed.
Transport Minister John Mickel announced today Jodie Signato, Mark Kamsler, John Angel and Dennis Howe would stay on with chair Clive Skarott, deputy chair Lorraine Brophy and fellow director Rodney Meiklejohn.
"The Cairns Port Authority is a major contributor to the Far Northern economy and plays a critical role in its management of both the airport and the seaport," Mr Mickel said.
"This strong team will continue to lead the Cairns Port Authority through the time of expected population growth ahead.
"It's a diverse mix of people with a good range of experience who can I am confident will continue to drive the progress and achievements of the Cairns Port Authority.
"The port authority is in the midst of a busy time, having just announced the start of construction on the next stage of Cityport, the new marina site.
"The project is expected to be completed in April 2008, with the Marina Site Development becoming the new home of the Cairns Yacht Club.
"In addition the recently approved expansion of the airport's domestic terminal will position the authority to take full advantage of the growth in the leisure market and the extra competition being provided by the new operators in the Australian aviation market."
The port authority is responsible for the seaport, the Cityport and the airport, one of the busiest in Australia in terms of the movement of international passengers.
It is heavily involved in the cooperative marketing and promotion of Cairns and Tropical North Queensland as a tourist destination and the facilitation of trade opportunities.
