Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
The chair of the Ports Corporation of Queensland board, Leonie Taylor, has been reappointed.
Transport Minister John Mickel announced today fellow director Diane Zetlin had also been re-appointed "Ms Taylor and Ms Zetlin will continue on the board alongside deputy chair Jim Petrich and directors Julie Bignell, Kasper Kuiper and Bernadette Inglis," he said.
Mr Mickel said the Ports Corporation of Queensland was in the midst of a busy time.
"It is the port authority for eight commercial ports, two community ports and three non-trading ports between Maryborough and Thursday Island,” he said.
"Half of all Queensland exports by tonnage pass through the corporation's ports.
"The corporation is nearing the completion of a $116 million expansion of the Abbot Point Coal Terminal north of Bowen which will take terminal capacity to 21 million tonnes per annum and is busy planning further development options to take full advantage of the booming coal market.
"The corporation has also recently completed a $60 million dredging program at the port of Hay Point south of Mackay which has substantially increased the departure windows for deep laden vessels at both terminals and this has assisted in easing the congestion which has been experienced at this port.
"The board sets the pace and direction for the ports' projects and it is critical we have skilled, enthusiastic people at the helm.
"I am confident the board will meet the challenges the corporation faces now and in the future."
