Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Businessman Peter Tait has joined the board of Mackay Port Authority.
Transport Minister John Mickel announced Mr Tait's appointment, along with the reappointment of the chair, Graham Davies.
Fellow directors Laurie Horgan and John Raby have also been reappointed.
"Messrs Davies, Horgan and Raby will rejoin deputy chair Robynne Dudley, and directors Stephen Golding and Mark Williamson whose terms do not expire this year," Mr Mickel said.
"Mr Tait's extensive business experience with a range of industries will be a valuable addition to the knowledge on the board."
Mr Mickel said the Mackay Port Authority was in the midst of a busy time.
"Mackay airports passenger numbers have continued to grow rapidly over the past few years due to a buoyant tourism sector, cheaper airfares and the mining boom," he said.
“In the past six years, passenger numbers have more than doubled, and this year more than 750,000 passengers are expected through the terminal.
"The port authority is also proceeding to carry out $2.5 million of drainage works and land subdivision.
"The board sets the pace and direction for the ports' projects and it is critical that we have skilled, enthusiastic people at the helm.
"I am confident the board will meet the challenges that Mackay faces now and in the future."
