Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Australia TradeCoast Ltd chair David Harrison has been reappointed chair of the Port of Brisbane Corporation.
Transport Minister John Mickel today announced Mr Harrison's re-appointment to the corporation's board, along with the re-appointments of current deputy chair Catherine Sinclair and directors Professor Ted Brown and Peter Low.
"They will continue on the board alongside directors Sue Palmer, Glen Toll, Loftus Harris and Peter Lancaster," he said.
"Australian Chamber of Shipping Queensland state secretary Bill Guest is a new director, and his national and international expertise in the shipping industry will be invaluable to the board."
Mr Mickel said the Port of Brisbane Corporation was in the midst of a busy time.
"Strong economic conditions, sustained population growth and the continuing boom in mining and construction have led to record-breaking performances in both container and total trade volumes through the Port of Brisbane in 2006-07," he said.
"In 2006-07, Brisbane’s container trade hit an all-time high of 875,069 containers, up 14.2%.
"The Port of Brisbane's growth has again surpassed that of its east-coast capital-city port competitors.
"The port is also continuing to expand and due to strong forecasted regional and trade growth, will be proceeding with the construction of two new berths at its Fisherman Islands facility.
"The board sets the pace and direction for the port's projects and it is critical that we have skilled, enthusiastic people at the helm.
"I'm confident the board will meet the challenges the Port of Brisbane faces now and in the future."
