Sustainable integrated transport was discussed in Nambour today at the Queensland Government’s Ministerial Regional Community Forum.

Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Desley Boyle and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport Chris Bombolas met local community representatives, known as forum members, to exchange information and share ideas.

Forum members presented a proposal for a transport network for the whole of the Sunshine Coast region to help foster a strong economy, a sustainable environment and an inclusive society.

Minister for Communities Lindy Nelson-Carr said the relevant Government departments would now review the proposal and report back to the next forum held in the region.

“I want to thank the community and especially forum members for getting involved,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“These forums organised by the Department of Communities help the Government better understand the needs of regional Queenslanders,” she said.

“Today the Government also reported back on an issue raised at a previous forum concerning youth participation and engagement in Government decision making.”

Ms Nelson-Carr encouraged people to get in touch with their local forum members to find out more and to suggest issues for consideration at the next forum on 20 November.

Forum member contacts and other forum information can be obtained from the Department of Communities on 5470 8700.

Forum events were run simultaneously today in nine other regional areas: Beenleigh, Boyne Island, Charters Towers, Chermside, Collinsville, Gatton, Highfields, Thursday Island and Wondai.
