The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Alternative models of independent and affordable housing for seniors in remote communities was among the issues discussed at the Queensland Government Ministerial Regional Community Forum in Collinsville today.
Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson and Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin met local community representatives, known as forum members, to exchange information and share ideas.
Forum members presented a proposal to encourage community support for models of appropriate housing for seniors and elderly people living in rural areas.
Minister for Communities Lindy Nelson-Carr said the relevant Government departments would now review the proposal and report back to the next forum held in the region.
“I want to thank the community and especially the forum members for getting involved,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“These forums organised by the Department of Communities help the Government better understand the needs of regional Queenslanders.”
Ms Nelson-Carr encouraged people to get in touch with their local forum members to find out more and to suggest issues for consideration at the next forum on 20 November.
Forum member contact details and other information can be obtained from the Department of Communities on 4967 4420.
Forum events were run simultaneously today in nine other regional areas:
Beenleigh, Boyne Island, Charters Towers, Chermside, Gatton, Highfields, Nambour, Thursday Island and Wondai.
