The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr

Issues affecting seniors were discussed in Boyne Island today at the Queensland Government’s Ministerial Regional Community Forum.

Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations John Mickel and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health Karen Struthers met local community representatives, known as forum members, to exchange information and share ideas.

Forum members also presented a proposal on the services and support needed by older people in the region.

The proposal identified the need for flexibility and coordination of existing and future services for seniors.

Minister for Communities Lindy Nelson-Carr said Government departments would now review the proposal and report back to the next forum to be held in the region.

“I want to thank the community and the forum members for getting involved in the forum process,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“These forums organised by the Department of Communities help Government better understand the needs of regional Queenslanders.

“Today the Government also reported back on an issue raised at a previous forum concerning the impact of new development on local communities.”

Ms Nelson-Carr also encouraged people to get in touch with their local forum members to suggest issues for consideration at the next forum on 20 November.

Forum member contact details and more information about the forum process are available from the Department of Communities on 4938 4472.

Forum events were run simultaneously today in nine other regional areas:
