Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
Queensland Health has purchased three units in Emerald to boost accommodation for health professionals in the region, Health Minister Stephen Robertson announced today.
Mr Robertson said the additional units would provide a valuable incentive for recruiting and retaining doctors with obstetric skills to the region.
“A shortage of accommodation and high rents in Emerald has made recruitment of specialist staff difficult,” he said.
“That’s why we have purchased these three, three-bedroom units in Moody Street
“The units are part of the State Government’s $91 million Regional Staff Accommodation Program to provide an additional 280 dwellings for Queensland Health staff throughout the state.
“I’m pleased the Central Health Service District has secured these properties to support the vital work of health professionals in the region.
“They are conveniently located for health staff close to Emerald Hospital.”
Mr Robertson said the additional units would further assist health care in Emerald.
“I’m hopeful these units will help attract and retain health professionals and provide greater security for maternity services,” he said.
“This, in turn, assists government to deliver the health services all Queenslanders want and deserve, no matter where they live.”
“Doctors, nurses and allied health professionals who make the commitment to live and work in rural areas should not be disadvantaged,” he said.
“This is about lifting the standard of accommodation on offer for health professionals in regional Queensland.”
