Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation
The Honourable Andrew McNamara
Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation Andrew McNamara has announced a new formal camping area at the mouth of the Kolan River Conservation Park will open for the September school holidays.
Mr McNamara said the new camping area lies 25km north-west of Bundaberg and has been established by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) to protect the sensitive coastal environment.
"This site will enable campers to visit and stay in a wonderful part of the Burnett coastline but limit the number of people camping at any one time," he said.
"The area lies at the southern side of the mouth of the Kolan River and is accessible by 4WDs along the beach from Moore Park or by boat from Miara township."
The Kolan River camping area will allow low-key bush camping in separate camping sites under casuarina trees.
"Campers must be self-sufficient – there’s no facilities – and take adequate food, drinking water, fuel, first aid and medical supplies with them and ensure they remove all rubbish," said the Minister.
The new camping area will be open in time for the upcoming September school holidays. Camping permits are required and must be obtained before camping.
Campers can book their campsite online at www.epa.qld.gov.au or phone on 131304.
Permits can also be purchased in person at QPWS Bundaberg office at Level 2, 46 Quay Street from 8.30am to 5pm weekdays.
More information is available from QPWS Bundaberg Office on (07) 4131 1600 or online at www.epa.qld.gov.au.
