Minister for Child Safety and Minister for Women
The Honourable Margaret Keech
Meeting staff on the frontline was top of new Child Safety Minister Margaret Keech’s agenda as she toured the Beenleigh Child Safety Service Centre in her first official engagement today.
Mrs Keech said she was delighted to meet the hardworking men and women helping protect vulnerable children in her Albert electorate.
“It’s great to be here today to talk with the staff about the important work they do and see how the centre runs,” Mrs Keech said.
“I’m also here to let frontline child safety workers how proud I am to be the new Child Safety Minister, and that they have my full support.
“It’s the staff who are out there every day, working in communities like this one in my own electorate, making things better for Queensland children.
“It’s challenging work, but they do a fantastic job, and deserve to be applauded.
“We need to make sure we can retain these passionate, dedicated people, and that’s why my first commitment as Child Safety Minister is to the staff of centres like this one.
“I want them to know that their hard work is recognised, and so are the difficulties they face every day.
“I will be doing all that I can to ensure that Child Safety workers are supported and that their working environment and conditions encourage them to stay with the department.
“I want Child Safety to be the employer of choice so that we can continue to attract the best and brightest in this industry, and ensure that they want to continue to work here for years to come.”
Mrs Keech said she was looking forward to the challenges of her new portfolio.
“As a mother myself, I believe there is nothing more important than protecting the welfare of Queensland children,” she said.
“I know this won’t be an easy job, but I feel privileged to have the opportunity to make a real difference for our children.”
