Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
With summer storms just around the corner, readers can take comfort in the fact they have some of the best electrical technicians restoring power should the wild weather cause interruptions.
Paul Utz from the local Geebung depot is one of these technicians and has just been awarded the prestigious ENERGEX Apprentice of the Year title.
Paul was presented the award for his excellence in practical, theoretical and attitudinal aspects of training as a electrical fitter mechanic over the past four years.
In presenting the award, Minister for Mines and Energy, Geoff Wilson, said Paul had demonstrated that he was a highly skilled tradesperson committed to remain at the forefront of a face-paced industry.
“Paul has excelled in an industry where exceptional skills and a willingness to never stop learning are essential to keep up with continuous and complex technological advancements,” he said.
“In a time when some industries are struggling to attract apprentices, Paul has proven that a trade is an excellent career path that can give you a bright future, both economically and professionally.”
Minister Wilson also commended staff at the Geebung depot stating it was their guidance that assisted Paul in becoming an outstanding performer.
“To become an exceptional apprentice the student needs exceptional teachers and I commend every staff member at the Geebung depot because without their support and leadership, we wouldn’t have such high quality future tradespeople as we see in Paul.”
For his efforts Paul has also been awarded the overall winner of the 2007 Energex Apprentice of the Year.
