Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has called on all Queenslanders to rally behind the North Queensland Cowboys as they prepare for Saturday’s NRL Preliminary Final game in Sydney.
Ms Bligh, who was in Townsville yesterday to watch the Cowboys defeat the New Zealand Warriors at Dairy Farmers Stadium, said the team was one win away from earning Queensland a Grand Final birth.
“The Cowboys have now clocked seven straight wins in the lead up to the finals, and no matter what code or team you back, I want all Queenslanders to become honourary Cowboys fans this week to cheer them on against the Sea Eagles,” Ms Bligh said.
“Queenslanders are known as fierce and vocal supporters of their sporting teams, so lets not disappoint this week – with more than 4.1 million Queenslanders cheering the Cowboys, the southerners won’t know what hit them.”
Ms Bligh congratulated coach Graham Murray and the team on an outstanding season so far.
“The team gave North Queensland fans plenty to shout about yesterday, and after coming so close to the Premiership in 2005 I imagine the boys are even more determined to bring the title home.
“I wish them every success on Saturday night - come on the Cowboys!” she said.
The North Queensland Cowboys will take on the Manly Sea Eagles on Saturday night (22 September) at Sydney Football Stadium.
