Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence
Minister for Sport Judy Spence has called on the Redcliffe Dolphins to use the famous maroon spirit to beat the Tweed Heads Seagulls in tomorrow’s Queensland Rugby League Wizard Cup grand final at Suncorp Stadium.
“Being a born and bred Queenslander I am concerned that the Wizard Cup could head south of the border for the first time if Tweed Heads beats Redcliffe in the final,” Ms Spence said.
“Queensland has a wonderful rugby league history and it would be a sad day to see our competition’s trophy heading to New South Wales.”
Ms Spence said she’s looking forward to watching the grand final which will be the first major sporting event she will attend as Minister for Sport.
“I am a great fan of rugby league and have enjoyed many games in the National Rugby League over the years.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the top two teams in the Queensland Wizard Cup do battle for the trophy.
“I congratulate both Redcliffe and Tweed Heads for making the grand final however I am looking forward to the Dolphins defending Queensland’s rugby league reputation.”
