The Honourable Geoff Wilson

Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson reminded junior mineral explorers in Queensland that they have two weeks left to apply for grants to help them in their quest to find new minerals.

“Junior explorers have always played a big role in exploration in Queensland and these research grants will encourage their growth," Mr Wilson said.

Minister Wilson said $240,000 had been set aside for the first round of funding.

“Research into new exploration concepts and techniques will allow innovative targeting of mineral exploration.

Mr Wilson said the grants would help junior mineral exploration companies access technical and other services to advance innovation.

Examples of research can include geological mapping, geophysical interpretation and innovative geophysical data acquisition or processing, geochemical sampling (other than drilling), data compilation and review and modelling.

“The initiative is another strategy under our $29 million Smart Mining–Future Prosperity program, which aims to stimulate exploration investment in Queensland,” Mr Wilson said.

Applications for the first round of the Industry Network Initiative grants close on Friday September 28.
