Some of the state’s best young softball stars will put their skills to the test in the Queensland School Sport 12-years-and-under State Softball Championships, in Mount Isa this weekend.

Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said the championships would be held over three days, from 14-16 September, at Alexandra Oval.

“I'd like to congratulate all competitors for their achievement in representing their regions, and wish them every success at the championships,” Mr Welford said.

“Each region will be represented by a team of 12 boys and the championships will play out in round-robin format.

“Being selected in a regional team is a significant achievement and each of these young people should feel very proud.

“This event provides a great opportunity for these young athletes to compete at a high level while meeting and sharing experiences with their peers from across the state.”

Eight sporting regions will be represented at the championships – Capricornia, Darling Downs, Metropolitan West, Metropolitan North, Metropolitan East, North West, Wide Bay and Sunshine Coast.

Mr Welford also thanked the dedicated teachers and school staff, coaches and team managers who had worked hard to make the championships a success.

A state squad consisting of at least 12 boys will be selected to compete at the School Sport Australia National Exchange which will be held in Canberra from 18-23 November.
