Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology
The Honourable Robert Schwarten

Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten today announced more than $20,000 in funding for maintenance projects at Mt Kilcoy, Kilcoy and Harlin state schools.

Mr Schwarten said the funding – from the Department of Public Works’ emergency maintenance fund – was great news for each of the school communities.

“At each of the schools, QBuild identified minor defects with aspects of the sewerage system with required urgent attention,” Mr Schwarten said.

“More than $14,000 will be spent relining the earthenware sewer line at Kilcoy State School; $4,000 will go towards repairs to the existing sewerage system at Harlin; and close to $3,000 will be spent repairing the existing sewerage system at Mt Kilcoy school.

“The work will be programmed as soon as possible with every effort being made to minimise disruption to the schools.”

Mr Schwarten said the emergency maintenance fund was developed to complement existing maintenance programs and specifically to undertake projects that arose in the course of the year or that were unable to be completed by the school because of the magnitude of the cost.

Mr Schwarten said QBuild – the State Government’s construction and maintenance division – would manage the project.

“This funding demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to properly maintaining public infrastructure for the benefit of the community,” Mr Schwarten said.
