The Honourable Margaret Keech
Queensland Airports Limited is the official naming rights sponsor of the Queensland Tourism Awards 2007, Tourism Minister, Margaret Keech, announced today.
Mrs Keech said Queensland Airports Limited’s decision to be the Awards’ Principal Partner was testament to the company’s dedication to the state’s tourism industry.
“Queensland’s tourism industry is based on partnerships and professionalism, and the Queensland Tourism Awards is a celebration of not only excellence but of the strength of these partnerships,” Mrs Keech said.
“Queensland Airports Limited is a major part of the state’s tourism industry so to have them supporting the 2007 Awards demonstrates the company’s commitment to its future.
“The Queensland Tourism Awards is our industry’s night of nights and last year attracted more than 1,000 guests.
“This year it will be held in Townsville which is the first time the event has been held outside of south-east Queensland in more than four years, making it a celebration of Queensland’s diversity.”
Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) proudly owns and operates Gold Coast, Townsville and Mount Isa airports.
QAL Managing Director Dennis Chant said the headline partnership was a perfect fit for the state’s leading airport investment company.
“With almost 5.3 million passengers passing through our three airports last year - up six percent - Queensland Airports is a key driver for growing tourism to regional communities,” Mr Chant said.
“In fact, we invested more than $60 million in our three airports over the past financial year, including the Gold Coast Airport runway extension and creating the Northern Australian Aerospace Centre for Excellence at Townsville Airport.
“This investment coupled with our partnership approach to working with airlines, government and industry continues to improve and sustain tourism growth to regional Queensland.
“Supporting the Queensland Tourism Awards builds on our strong relationships with Tourism Queensland, regional authorities and our tourism industry and airline partners, and demonstrates our commitment to growing the tourism pie for Queensland.”
