Friendly and professional customer service was the key to repeat visitation in the increasingly competitive global tourism environment, Tourism Minister, Margaret Keech, said today.

Speaking about the regional launch in Cairns of the AussieHost customer service training program, Mrs Keech encouraged local tourism operators to ensure their customer service was of international standard.

“Tropical North Queensland is blessed with natural attractions that make it one of Australia’s most popular destinations,” she said.

“Tourism Queensland and Tourism Tropical North Queensland works in partnership with the local industry to ensure the region is at the top of the must-see list of international and domestic visitors.

“The challenge is to ensure they want to come back again. Friendly and professional customer service can make or break this.”

Mrs Keech commended the Queensland Tourism Industry Council on re-establishing the nationally recognised customer service program.

“Ensuring regional delivery and uptake of skilling and employment programs is a key action of the $48 million 10-year Queensland Tourism Strategy,” she said.

“Tropical North Queensland, in partnership with industry and relevant agencies, has made a commitment to promoting service excellence.

“I encourage local tourism, hospitality and related industry operators to take advantage of this opportunity to access high quality and effective training.”

AussieHost is a national training program first introduced in 1994 and revamped and re-launched by the Retail Association of Australian and the Queensland Tourism Industry Council in March this year.

The regional launch of the AussieHost program was held at Cairns TAFE today.
