The Honourable Margaret Keech
The Gold Coast will be the feature of two Chinese travel documentaries, following the arrival of a Chinese film crew to the coast this week, Tourism Minister, Margaret Keech, said today.
Mrs Keech said the filming of China Travel Channel’s Tasty Journey would profile the Gold Coast in one of its most rapidly-growing markets.
“Tourism Queensland will host the film crew’s visit to the Gold Coast this week, as they shoot two 40-minute documentaries for one of China’s most popular travel shows,” Mrs Keech said.
“Our latest international visitation figures released last week showed Chinese travellers are heading to the Gold Coast in greater numbers than ever before, so this filming is very positive news for the region.
“China is now the Gold Coast’s third largest international source market and represents more than 10 per cent of all visitors to the coast.
“Being the feature of these travel documentaries will help the Gold Coast push even further into this fast-developing market.”
Mrs Keech said the programs would highlight a variety of Gold Coast locations.
“The focus of the shows will be the Gold Coast’s many and varied culinary delights,” she said.
“They’ll be filming at some of the region’s top tourist venues, such as Q1, Palazzo Versace, Mt Tamborine and Conrad Jupiters, but with an added tasty twist.
“Chinese viewers will be able to see the range of wonderful food and wine options on the Gold Coast, including sipping champagne at sunset from the top of Q1 and a hinterland afternoon tea at Mt Tamborine to the five star fine dining of some of the Gold Coast’s top hotels.
“China Travel Channel’s viewers are made up of many high-yield potential travellers, such as up-market professionals and well educated urban trendsetters, making this the perfect opportunity for the Gold Coast to sell itself within the market.”
The crew will be on the Gold Coast from 12 – 14 September.
