Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology
The Honourable Robert Schwarten

Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten today announced funding of more than $11,000 to undertake three maintenance projects at Canungra State School.

Mr Schwarten said the lion’s share of the funding – close to $9,000 – would go towards the replacement of timber hopper windows and frames in Building Eight, while damaged chamfer boards and steps on other buildings would also be repaired or replaced.

“This funding is great news for the Canungra State School community,” Mr Schwarten said.

“The existing timber hopper windows on the north-western first floor elevation will be removed and replaced with powder-coated white aluminium glass hopper windows.

“The funding will also allow for the replacement of damaged chamfer boards in Building Three and the repair of timber steps and handrails on building five.”

Mr Schwarten said the funding demonstrated the State Government’s commitment to properly maintaining public infrastructure for the benefit of the community.

“Work is expected to start in the near future and every effort will be made to minimise disruption to classes.”

Mr Schwarten said the emergency maintenance fund was developed to complement existing maintenance programs and specifically to undertake projects that arose in the course of the year or that were unable to be completed by the school because of the magnitude of the cost.

He said QBuild – the State Government’s construction and maintenance division – would manage the project.
