Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Minister for State Development John Mickel today announced 136 new manufacturing jobs for Bundaberg thanks to a decision by Transpacific Industries to significantly expand its current Superior Pak facility.
Transpacific is Australasia’s leading provider of integrated total waste management solutions, specialising in solid, liquid and hazardous waste.
The Bundaberg site will be used by the company to manufacture and assemble high quality waste and compaction vehicles and equipment for the Australian market.
“This is a huge boost to the manufacturing industry in Bundaberg and represents an investment of around $2.7 million in the region,” said Mr Mickel who made the announcement at Bundaberg Technology Park, where Superior Pak is located.
“It cements Bundaberg’s reputation as a centre of excellence in manufacturing, a reputation that suffered a setback just a couple of years ago.
“When the Caseih/Austoft Cane Harvester and Equipment manufacturing facility closed its doors things looked grim and local jobs were lost.
“Happily the Bundaberg Technology Group had the foresight to purchase the site and, working closely with the Bundaberg State Development Centre, have successfully rebuilt it. Superior Pak is already a tenant here employing 70-odd people.”
Mr Mickel said the Bundaberg Technology Group shared the Queensland Government’s vision to ‘make smart businesses bigger and big businesses smarter’.
“The advanced manufacturing sector is very important to the Queensland economy and employs more than 200,000 people state-wide,” he said.
“The Department of State Development’s Invest Queensland team, along with the Bundaberg State Development Centre, collaborated with the Bundaberg Technology Group to woo Transpacific Industries to the region.
“The site will continue to grow and position itself as an important regional manufacturing hub which will generate more career opportunities for Bundaberg.”
Mr Mickel presented Terry Peabody, chairman of Transpacific Industries, with a certificate of appreciation acknowledging the companies upgrade of its Bundaberg facility.
