Queensland’s peak tourism promotion body, Tourism Queensland, has a new Chief Executive Officer.

Tourism Minister, Margaret Keech, said she was delighted to announce the appointment of Anthony Hayes, who has been acting in the role since June.

“Anthony Hayes beat a red-hot field of national and international candidates for the job,” Mrs Keech said.

“The fact an internal candidate was the unanimous choice of the selection panel highlights the quality of the TQ executive team.

Mr Hayes has worked closely with me and the Government as acting CEO in recent months and will hit the ground running.

“He has impressive credentials for the job, has great industry contacts and I was happy to support the Board’s recommendation for his appointment.

“We have already developed a strong working relationship and this will strengthen as he continues in the role.

“Anthony is well respected by his TQ colleagues and the industry, within and outside Queensland.

“He is the right person to have at the helm as TQ works in partnership with the industry to continue to implement the Beattie Government’s Queensland Tourism Strategy during this exciting time for the industry.”

Mr Hayes came to TQ as Executive Director International Operations in 2005 after a long history with Qantas.

He said he was delighted to be appointed and would ensure Tourism Queensland was more responsive than ever to the needs of the Queensland tourism industry.

“Tourism Queensland has a reputation as a market leader and we will continue to set the pace,” he said.

“We are at the creative frontier of digital marketing and we will also be working hard to increase international visitors to Queensland because that is where the real potential for growth lies.”

Mr Hayes said a great strength of Tourism Queensland was its leadership and collaboration with industry.

“Through the Queensland Tourism Strategy, the Queensland Government and the tourism industry will work to create a Queensland that is an even better place in which to live, to visit, to work and to play,” he said.
