Premier Peter Beattie has congratulated local businesses that have taken their products and services to the world and won 2007 Townsville Region Export and Business Excellence Awards.
The nine winners were announced by Natural Resources and Water Minister and Minister Assisting the Premier in North Queensland Craig Wallace at a special ceremony at Southbank Convention Centre tonight (August 31).
“Congratulations to each and every winner because your business achievements and innovation are making a valuable contribution to the Smart State,” Mr Beattie said.
“Well done to Digital Dimensions for taking out the Townsville Regional Exporter of the Year Award,” he said.
Digital Dimensions is a small multimedia production house producing natural history documentaries and high-level corporate communications material. Its factual documentaries and programming are aimed at an international audience, portraying the unique animals, resources and natural beauty that Australia and Queensland has to offer.
“All of the finalists have made significant contributions to Queensland’s economy, as well as helped create investment opportunities and showcased the Smart State vision.”
Mr Beattie said the calibre of award winners was undeniable proof of the place Queensland has earned in the global business community.
“Our export sector benefits all Queenslanders and we will continue to forge ahead building new trade relationships and offering smart business solutions to the world.”
Mr Wallace said the Townsville region was a powerhouse of business expertise and innovation.
“We are a booming region and these awards show we have the businesspeople and the business skills to underpin this exciting growth,” Mr Wallace said.
All regional applicants will be in the running for the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards. Winners of these State awards will be announced at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday, October 25.

Sunferries has become a local industry leader and a mainstay of tourist and maritime transport operations in North Queensland.

Mining is both underground and open-cut, producing copper cathode and concentrate, zinc concentrate, crude lead and tankhouse slimes.
