Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading, Wine Industry Development and Women
The Honourable Margaret Keech
QUEENSLAND TO HOST 2008 WOMEN’S COUNCIL
Queensland will host next year’s Ministerial Council on the Status of Women, Minister for Women, Margaret Keech, announced today.
Mrs Keech said following the success of MINCO 2007 in Hobart this week, she looked forward to more fruitful talks when Federal, State and Territory Ministers meet in Brisbane in 2008.
“I’m thrilled that Queensland will play host to this very important meeting of ministers who represent the interests of Australian women,” she said.
“It is our role to be a strong voice for the women we represent, and to address the important issues affecting their lives.
“I see the Ministerial Council on the Status of Women as a great opportunity to share ideas and resources with other parliamentarians who have the same goal.
“There are many issues affecting women throughout Australia and while some are the same for all of us, others can very from state to state, even region to region.
“That’s why it is so important that we have this annual gathering - to make sure that all Australian women have a voice.”
Mrs Keech said it was disappointing that Federal Minister for Women Julie Bishop, was an apology at this year’s meeting.
“I hope to see the Federal Minister for Women, whoever that may be, at next year’s meeting,” Mrs Keech said.
“And I look forward to shining a spotlight on some of the great initiatives we’re undertaking to benefit all Queensland women.”
